“
A newly disclosed document reveals that Vatican officials instructed the bishops of Ireland in 1997 that they must not adopt a policy of reporting priests suspected of child abuse to the police or civil authorities.
The document appears to contradict Vatican claims that the hierarchy in Rome never determined the actions of local bishops in abuse cases, and that the church did not impede criminal investigations of accused child abusers.

Not surprising, huh?

I am shocked, SHOCKED, to find gambling is going on in here!
Can someone please explain to me in a logical and concise manner why, exactly, we can’t arrest any and everyone involved in the massive and pervasive sexual abuse of minors that’s going on inside the Catholic Church? Specifically, why the sexual abuse that is now shown to be institutionally protected and intentionally legally subversive is being accepted and condoned?
Did I miss the part of United States and international law wherein the vestments became some sort of “get out of jail free” card for the morally, ethically, and legally corrupt? Why don’t we have The Pope, who was the leader of the division in charge of “investigating” these “incidents,” up on a stand explaining what he was doing, how, and why he chose to hide these bastards within the church when he should have been calling the police.
Oh, I forgot. It’s all there in the letter, and the church’s response to said letter.
“The results could be highly embarrassing and detrimental to those same Diocesan authorities”
Well we certainly wouldn’t want to embarrass sexual predators, pedophiles, and rapists, now would we? That would be unacceptable. That being said:
“It refers to a situation that we’ve now moved beyond.”
Well I’m glad you’ve been so able to move beyond it. I’m sure it’s been just as easy for the tens of thousands of abuse victims you’ve left in your wake because of your institutionalized child abuse ring.
From the people who brought you The Dark Ages™, the longest and most detrimental period of human history, comes a new adventure: Moral Authority™.
“It’s right, because we say so.”
